Medie was born on September 1, 1932, outside a small sawmill town of Urbana in Union County, Arkansas.  She was the daughter of the late Armon Linford and Grace Harrison Ball.  She grew up in the Arkansas woods but move to Texas with her family where she graduated from Borger High School in 1950.

In her youth, she lettered in basketball, sang in the school choir, and loved jitterbug.  She worked as a housewife, newspaper reporter, and owner of the General Store in White Deer, Texas.   She loved embroidery and played piano.

Medie knew all the words to all the songs and she loved to sing.  Before her death, she wanted everyone to know that she loved her family.  Her last words were, “If you can find something to laugh about even in the worst situation, you’ll be okay.”
