Bruce Olson Obituary

Our beloved Bruce McRoy Olson passed away after a short battle with cancer on March 1, 2024. Bruce was born January 24, 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Dale H. and Velda Mae McCann Olson.

His father worked for the telephone company and gradually moved east living in several states before settling in New Jersey by the time Bruce was 10. He lived in New Jersey thru his formative years, graduating from Pascack Valley High School, where he served as a student body officer and starred as Linus in the school production of “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.”  Bruce enjoyed playing games with family and assembling puzzles. He loved cars. He learned the value of hard work by working on his uncle’s farm in Idaho during his teenage summers. He was always known by all for his generosity and kindness.

He served a two-year mission for his church to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. When he returned he attended Brigham Young University where he met his first wife Adrienne Donnell (later divorced). They had three children Alanna, Cameron, and Ian. He married Rebecca Lynn Latham in the LDS Los Angeles Temple, and they have enjoyed 32 years of married life, and had two children Hillary and Brigham. They’ve made Bedford, Texas their home for the last 32 years and have truly had a “wonderful life.”

Bruce had many careers including golf course greens maintenance, restaurant management, pool construction, and newspaper distribution. Bruce started learning about computers as he left college and was a self-taught programmer. His last job was with Capitol One and he was proud of his accomplishments there, as he designed and wrote a program that helped the company immensely.

After retirement he thoroughly enjoyed hanging out by the pool and tending his youngest grandson, Grayson, who he had an especially close bond with.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served faithfully in many capacities.

He is survived by his loving wife Rebecca, and children Alanna (partner-Will Montgomery), Cameron, Hillary (Josh) Goryl, Brigham, and five grandchildren Franchesca, Angelina, Gabriel, Kaleigh, and Grayson. He had 2 step grandchildren Appiah and Brodie. Also survived by his brother Linden (Monique) Olson, and sister Kandace (Martin) Schloesser.

He was preceded in death, and is now enjoying a great reunion with, his father Dale, his mother Velda, and his son Ian, and many other family members and loved ones.

His funeral will be held Thursday, March 7 at the Colleyville LDS Chapel, 5312 Bransford Rd. Colleyville, Texas. Viewing at 10:00 am followed by the funeral at 11:00 am.
